Hello SophieSue!
Apologies for the “delinquency” in the time of my reply, perhaps I should be fined myself 🙂

Welcome to the forum! I am not very familiar with the area, though if I had to venture a guess, it might be the amount the soldier had to pay. Britain used to use a system to pounds, shillings, and pence. 12 pence = 1 shilling. 20 shillings = 1 pound. (thus, 240 pence = 1 pound).

The numbers next to the names might related to that, where in the case of Joseph Younker, he paid a fine of 1 pound, 2 shillings, and 6 pence.

Maybe someone else with more experience can confirm or wrigh in?

Hope that helps some, it’s great you’re researching your ancestry.

Thanks,
Dan
