Often in school the focus of history education about the American Revolution is the “Davis vs. Goliath” version where the small United States defeated the mighty Great Britain. While yes, the United States overcame huge odds and fought valiantly to win, there was also help.

France contributed significantly to the American cause, also Spain would share some help. Another factor was that Great Britain was engaged in several wars across several continents during the same time period. This meant that forces were spread across those wars, leaving less to attack the colonies.

Are there other factors you are aware of that helped the United States win?
