Speculation about if there was no American Revolution

Could the British have adequately compromised with the colonies to prevent an American Revolution or due to distance, growth of the American colonies that nearly equaled the UK population, the colonies needing to trade with British enemies and lack of communications, would the breaking away of the colonies to form their own country eventually have occurred.
