So in 2014 there will be a new TV series set during the Revolutionary War. It will be called Turn, and produced by AMC. The plot will be based on the tale of a farmer who lives behind enemy (British) lines on Long Island, New York. He joins together with a group of childhood friends to create the Culper Spy Ring, that would server George Washington with intelligence throughout the war to help the Continental cause and support the efforts that led to victory.

The premiere is still a few months away, currently set for Sunday, April 6th, at 9pm EST/8PM Central, on AMC. The premiere will be 90 minutes, so a great first look into this story. I hope it is cast and done well, if so, this should be a good watch. For more details, here is the link to the summary at AMC: http://www.amctv.com/shows/turn/about

So Turn has aired! It runs at the 9pm slot on Sundays (at the same time as the popular Game of Thrones television show).

So how was the first episode? Great! At first, it’s nice to have a “mainstream” TV show that focuses on the American Revolution. It appears to have a big budget and has the visual appeal of other quality shows currently airing.

In the first episode (no spoilers here!), things begin to develop, we are introduced to the characters, and start to get familiar with the tone of the show. It has the potential to be something to look forward to each week, we’ll have to see how the next few episodes reveal more and see if it will be a great series.

It is also nice to have a modern piece that could help draw more interest and attention to the time period and great things from this era of history.
