British Regiment

The King’s American Dragoon’s was a British provincial military unit raised for service during the American Revolutionary War.

Founded by Benjamin Thompson (later Count Rumford) in 1781, it was initially formed from the remnants of other loyalist militia groups. They primarily served on Long Island in 1782 and early 1783, where they earned local notoriety for destroying a local church and burial ground in order to erect a fort in Huntington, New York. They were evacuated from New York and resettled in St. John, New Brunswick, in July 1783.

The unit was disbanded in St, John in October 1783.
